The National Monuments Service's description
On a dry meadow, at the stony N shore of the outflow of Lough Gara into the Boyle River. Two stone arm-like features, c. 8m apart, define the S portion of a slightly sunken oval area (23.5m N-S; 41m E-W). The E arm is an irregular to kidney-shaped island (20m N-S; 13.5m E-W; H 0.6m) with an uneven surface. In the gap between the 'arms' is an irregular concentration of stones (diam. c. 5m). The SE arm (31.8m E-W; 18m N-S) consists of stones well set into the ground and surrounded by soil that merges into the meadow to N. Two crannogs (SL045-008----; SL045-009----) are c. 200m to S and c. 250m to SE respectively. A moated site (SL045-007002-) lies c. 40m to N. (Fredengren 2002, KILA H1)
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
