The National Monuments Service's description

A letter, dated 1934, from Mr John Donegan to Dr A. Mahr of the National Museum of Ireland describes a 'monolith' about 250 yards [228.6m] from Kilfree House. The top was broken off and it measured '16 inches [0.4m] wide on each face and 2 feet 5 inches [0.73m] high' (SMR (1989) file). This stone has not been precisely located.

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
