The National Monuments Service's description
In grassland, near the top of a gentle S-facing slope and on the E side of main Sligo-Galway road. A slightly raised circular area (28m N-S) defined by a scarp (max. H 0.4m) NNW-WSW and truncated by a road at NW. A natural hollow was noted outside the scarp to SW. The rath was described during a previous inspection in 1985 (SMR file), after a c. 5m strip was removed along the W and NW arcs due to road widening, as a level interior defined by a scarp with a shallow external fosse N-SW. The rath is indicated on the 1838 OS 6-inch map as an embanked circular area immediately E of the road.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
