The National Monuments Service's description
In flat pasture, on the E side of the main Sligo-Galway road. The rath is levelled and is not visible at ground level. The rath is described during a previous inspection in 1985 (SMR (1989) file) as a circular area (29m N-S; c. 30m E-W) defined by an earth and stone bank (Wth c. 2m; max. H 1.5m) NNW-SW with a field boundary truncating the W sector. An external fosse (max. Wth c. 3m; D c. 0.75m) was noted all round though shallow in places and the interior was level. A disused quarry was noted outside the fosse at NE. An aerial photograph (OSAP, 6 4142) shows that the W half of the rath was levelled due to road widening.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
