Ringfort - cashel

The National Monuments Service's description

In pasture, on a S-facing spur in the Bricklieve Mountains. A circular area (int. diam. 25.6m N-S; 26.6m E-W) enclosed by a collapsed stone wall (max. Wth 6m; int. H 1.4m; ext. H 1.75m). There are two gaps (Wth 2.4m and 2.5m) in the wall in the S arc. The wall has collapsed down slope to E and W. The interior is uneven and grass-covered. A stone field boundary crosses the N half of the interior roughly on an E-W axis. The remains of a rectangular annexe (int. Wth 6.3m) (SL040-174002-) lies immediately to NE, attached to the external face of the cashel wall and defined by a stone wall (Wth 1.7m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H 0.36m). Wood-Martin (1882, 199-200) mentioned 'on the southern face of the fort there is some trace of a fortified entrance' possibly referring to one of the gaps which now exist though there is no evidence of any defensive features on either of these.
