The National Monuments Service's description
In a wetland area, on the W side of a road. One of a cluster of six sites (SL040-030003-; SL040-031002-; SL040-031003-; SL040-230001-; SL040-230002-) found during monitoring of the realignment of the N4 road from Hollybrook Estate to Castlebaldwin in the Summer of 1998 (Desmond 1998, 10). This possible fulacht fia was revealed in section by machinery under a layer of recently redeposited peat on the W side of the road. It measured 4m in length, consisted of compact stone within a blackened soil (D 0.5m) and had a slightly domed appearance. Some of the mound material had been removed by machinery prior to inspection. Following recording the site was covered with geo-textile, peat and topsoil and remains undisturbed. There is another possible fulacht fia (SL040-030003-) 4m to E and a possible enclosure (SL040-030001-) c. 50m to N. (Desmond 2000, 183-4)
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
