The National Monuments Service's description
In pasture, just below the crest of a NE-facing slope and with a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside. A roughly square mound (c. 14m NE-SW; 15.4m NW-SE; H 0.9m) with rounded corners which is well-defined on the downslope (NE) side but is low and degraded on the SW side where it is almost level with the ground surface. The S corner has been removed by quarrying as well as smaller areas at N and SE. On top of the mound, slightly SW of centre, is a small irregular secondary mound of earth and stones (4.7m NW-SE; 3.3m NE-SW; H 0.75m), possibly the result of field clearance or upcast from areas of disturbance. As it is indicated as a circular mound (diam. c. 20m) on the 1941-2 OS 6-inch map it is possible that its present shape is the result of recent modifications. Its size and location suggest a barrow. A possible circular enclosure (SL038-096----) lies c. 80m to SE and a possible rath (SL038-097----) c. 190m to SSE.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
