The National Monuments Service's description

This burnt mound was discovered during archaeological monitoring of the upgrading of local road (L54013) for the N4 Collooney to Castlebaldwin Road Project under Ministerial Direction A071 (E005036).
It was evident as a spread (10.3m NW-SE; 5.2m SW-NE) of black/dark brown peat that included frequent heat-cracked stone and charcoal. Following recording and surveying, it were preserved in situ. This involved sealing the deposit beneath protective terram and a layer of stone. A new road surface for L54013 was then laid over this.
