The National Monuments Service's description

Within an ecclesiastical enclosure (SL034-211004-). The rectangular graveyard (c. 60m NW-SE; c. 30m NE-SW) is enclosed by a stone wall and has an entrance on the NE side. The ruin of Ballindoon Abbey (SL034-211001-), a Dominican foundation, occupies the SW corner. The graveyard, which is still in use, is grass-covered and full of 19th- and 20th-century headstones. There is a plain 19th-century barrel-vaulted mausoleum, belonging to the Gethin family, to the NW of the priory. According to local information, burials were uncovered during surface quarrying in the vicinity of the graveyard.

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
