The National Monuments Service's description
In rough pasture, at the top of an E-facing slope, in the NE corner of Kilmorgan graveyard (SL034-081002-). This church is indicated as a rectangular structure (c. 20m E-W) on the 1838 OS 6-inch map. The E gable (ext. 7.24m N-S; T 1m) with returns of the S (ext. 7.7m) and N (ext. 12m) walls, constructed of random-rubble mortared limestone, survive. There is no trace of the W end. The E gable has a central window embrasure with a single round-headed light (Wth 0.25m; H 1.8m) which is chamfered and rebated externally. Near the E end of the S wall is another window embrasure, with a double light which is missing the upper part of its mullion and the central part of the top. This unusual light was formed from a single block of limestone, including the mullion. There is a wall-press under the E side of this window, on the internal wall-face. The N wall is missing a central portion (L c. 3m) which has been roughly repaired as this forms part of the boundary wall of the graveyard. There is a substantial crack at the SE corner. The interior contains 19th-century headstones and low uninscribed grave-markers.
These are the remains of the medieval parish church of Kilmorgan (Timoney and Timoney 2000). A field system (SL034-081003-) lies to the W and a holy well (SL034-081006-) lies c. 200m to the N. The site of a mill (SL034-081005-) lies c. 50m to the N.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
