The National Monuments Service's description

In a letter, dated 1960, from Mr T. M. O'Dowd to the NMI 'an ancient well, consisting of a...carved limestone basin...' is described near the edge of Lissananny bog (NMI). This bullaun stone has not been precisely located and it is possible that it is in that part of Lissananny Beg townland that is on OS 6-inch map 39.

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
