The National Monuments Service's description

In the R.C. Church of the Immaculate Conception, Ballymote. A rectangular limestone block (L 0.49m; Wth 0.29m; H 0.15m) with a central circular slightly rounded hollow or bowl (diam. 0.22m; D 0.1m). This stoup has been at its present location within living memory and may have come from the nearby abbey (SL033-163001-) or from the former R. C. Church (now Loftus Hall) immediately E of the abbey. The former R. C. church was closed in 1864 and subsequently converted into the present parish hall. (pers. comm. M. A. Timoney, Feb 2004). There is also a font (SL033-115001-) in the church which was brought here in 1948 from Battlefield House (OS sheet 39) but whose original location is not known.
