The National Monuments Service's description
In rocky undulating pasture on a slight S-facing slope and incorporating a natural semicircular cliff-edge on its N side. A roughly circular area (16m N-S; 15m E-W) defined by an earth and stone bank (int. H 0.3m; ext. H 0.9m) E-WSW and by a natural curving cliff-edge (H 8-10m at N) WSW-E. Immediately outside the base of the bank E-WSW is a discontinuous line of upright limestone blocks and slabs (average dims. H 0.75m; Wth 0.55m; T 0.55m). These could be the remains of low stone walling or a revetment for the bank. The entrance is at S with a stony ramp to exterior. The width of the ramp (max. Wth 5m; min. Wth 2m) decreases as it rises into the interior. The interior is undulating and clear of overgrowth and is slightly raised on the S side to compensate for the hillslope. The cliff-edge fort lies within a field system (SL033-070----). An enclosure (SL033-057----) lies c. 50m to S.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
