The National Monuments Service's description
Lewis (1837, vol. 1, 380) recorded that 'on the lands of Church Hill is a large cromlech, consisting of a horizontal and three upright stones.' This feature, whatever its true nature, has not been located despite an extensive search of the townland. It may be that this possible megalithic tomb is in that part of Church Hill which is on OS 6-inch map 38. It is also possible that this refers to the megalithic structure in the nearby townland of Achonry (SL032-189----).
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
