Ringfort - rath

In pasture, on top of a ridge. A raised circular area (32m N-S; 32m E-W) defined by two earthen banks with an intervening fosse. The inner bank (Wth 4.8m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 1.6m) survives SW-SE and is stone faced in parts both on the inner and outer faces. The interior is defined by a scarp (H 1.6m) SE-SW, revetted on its upper part by large rectangular stones. The intervening dry flat-bottomed fosse (Wth 8m) is evident SSE-W and N-SE and is partially rock-cut. The outer bank (Wth 4.7m; int. H 1.5m; ext. H 0.9m), which is evident N-E and SSE-WSW, is composed of earth along the N and E arcs and of small stones along the S arc. The interior is divided off-centre to the N by an E-W field boundary. A second field boundary exists on the line of, and replaces, the intervening fosse and the outer bank WSW-N.
