The National Monuments Service's description
In pasture, on the E-facing slope of a rise. A raised circular area (29m N-S) enclosed by a flat-topped earthen bank (Wth 4.5m; int. H 0.6m; ext. H 1.4m) ESE-NE and by a scarp elsewhere. An intervening fosse (Wth 5m) and outer earthen bank (Wth 2m; int. H 0.8m; ext. H 0.4m) are evident SE-NE. The interior is grass-covered and slopes gently down to E. According to O'Rorke (1878, 305), Mass was said 'on or near the rath of Fal-na-sugan' and 'a hedge-school' was taught on weekdays in the ditch of the rath. There are three other raths (SL032-037----, SL032-039001-, SL032-064001-) in this townland and it is not known which was being referred to by O'Rorke.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
