The National Monuments Service's description
A roughly rectangular graveyard (c. 60m NE-SW; c. 40m NW-SE) enclosed by a stone wall except on the NW side where it has been removed to allow for the recent extension of the burial area by c. 30m. Within the graveyard is a large flat-topped platform (c. 60m NE-SW; 30m NW-SE), on which stands the medieval parish church of Kilvarnet (SL032-034001-). This platform is truncated at SW by the roadside wall of the graveyard. The NW side of the platform is defined by an almost vertical scarp (H 0.8-1m at W, 0.5m at NNE) with traces of stone-facing. Modern graves abut the scarp and it marks the division between the platform where the earliest graves (18th/19th- and early 20th-century formal headstones and occasional uninscribed grave-markers) are located and the flat ground to NW which is occupied by mid- to late 20th-century graves. The scarp peters out at NE, and the SE side of the platform is defined by a broad irregular slope (Wth c. 4m; H 1.6m), overlain with graves.
