The National Monuments Service's description
In rough grazing, on the summit of a narrow ridge. A raised circular area (37m E-W) enclosed by an earthen bank and external fosse. The bank (Wth 6.6m; int. H 1.2m; ext. H 2m) is of earth and stone with possible internal stone facing or kerbing. There is a gap (Wth c. 2.5m) in the bank at SE. The fosse (Wth c. 4m; D 1.2m) is truncated by a field boundary at E and skirted by a possible counterscarp bank (Wth 1.5m; ext. H 0.5m) SE-NE. A N-S field boundary abuts the bank at N. Some rushes grow in the interior. In 1836 it was recorded as 'Tunnagh Fort' (OSNB vol. 1, 128).
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
