The National Monuments Service's description
In pasture, on a low rise. A slightly raised roughly circular area (26.8m N-S) enclosed by an earth and stone bank and an external fosse. The bank (Wth 3.8m; int. H 0.7m; ext. H 1.2m) is best evident SW-NW, but is low and poorly preserved elsewhere. There are gaps (Wth 2m) in the bank at SSW and NW. The fosse (Wth c. 3m; D 0.6m) is evident SW-NW, though it is obscured by a dense overgrowth, and at NW by a large heap of field clearance debris. A slightly curving depression (Wth 5m; D 0.65m) extends c. 19m N into the W half of the interior from a gap in the bank at SSW. Upcast earth and stones and piles of field clearance stones lie along the E side of this depression. Blackthorn bushes cover the W half of the interior. A N-S field boundary, indicated on the 1914 OS 6-inch map, abutting the rath at E has been levelled.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
