The National Monuments Service's description

In rough upland pasture, in the Ox Mountains, located on a small ridge or knoll, flanked immediately to N and S by two small, boggy valleys. The knoll is cloaked in blanket bog, with ground cover of moorland grasses, sedges, rushes and mosses, broken by areas of gneiss outcropping. To E ground falls away to the shore of Easkey Lough, overshadowed on its E side by the high main ridge of the Ox Mountains; to W there is a drop to a broad, flat expanse of blanket bog which stretches far to W and NW. The standing stone consists of an upright, narrow flat-topped pillar of schist. It has naturally rounded edges, giving it a roughly oval cross-section (0.2m E–W; 0.12-0.15m N–S). It leans slightly to N so that its vertical height is 0.6m, and the leaning or oblique dimension is 0.75m. There is at least a further 0.5m of the stone embedded in the peat.
