The National Monuments Service's description

On a steep S-facing hillside in very rough mountainous terrain with excellent views. The inspection of this cashel was difficult due to dense overgrowth of scrub. An oval area (33.5m NW-SE; 28.2m NE-SW) enclosed by two substantial, although much-denuded, drystone walls. Both walls display evidence of internal and external revetment in places. The inner wall (Wth c. 2.2m; int. H 1.2m; ext. H 0.9m) is much better preserved than the outer (Wth c. 2m; int. H 0.7m; ext. H 0.3m). Along the N arc there is a fosse (Wth c. 3.2-4m) between the walls; elsewhere there is a level space (Wth c. 2.5-3.4m). The interior slopes steeply down to S. A number of possible internal divisions, defined by drystone walls of uncertain age, are visible but could not be inspected in any detail due to the overgrowth. According to local information, there is a spring well within the interior but this was not located.

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
