The National Monuments Service's description
Located at the NE end of Coney Island, in Sligo Bay. This midden was included in the RMP (1995) on the basis of a small scale map published by Synge (1985, 128) which showed the approximate location of two middens (SL008-099----; SL014-003----) on the NE shoreline of Coney Island. Based on Synge’s map, this midden was listed in the RMP (1995) at IG coordinates 16229 33940 (roughly ITM 562246 839407). No trace of a midden was found at this location during field inspections; it may have been destroyed by erosion. Alternatively, given the approximate nature of the location recorded on Synge’s map, it is possible that the midden noted by Synge is the same as a midden (SL008-204----) which was exposed in the intertidal zone on the adjacent beach by the eroding action of a high tide in 2015.
