The National Monuments Service's description

A castle at Cloonerke is not known, but half a cartron amounting to over 300 acres there was owned by Christopher Jones in 1641. By the 1660s Lord Kingston is listed as the owner of most of it (Simington 1949, 95). A small rectangular structure (dims c. 10m NW-SE; c. 5m NE-SW), described as ‘Castle Quarter’ in gothic lettering, is marked on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. It is situated on the crest of a low E-W ridge, but no feature is visible at ground level in pasture.
