The National Monuments Service's description

According to J. O' Donovan writing in the 1830s (O'Flanagan 1931, vol. 1, 29) Beal Atha na mBuille is 'the mouth of the ford of strokes'. He thinks there may have been a battle here, but can find no reference to one. The ford is not identified, although it is likely to have been on the stream close to the mill (RO051-019----).
