The National Monuments Service's description

On low-lying ground on either bank of the NE-SW canalised Ballyglass stream. A WNW-ESE esker ridge on the W side of the stream morphs into a broader NW-SE ridge on the E side. An area of about 67 acres (c. 27 ha) as recorded on aerial photographs (CUCAP: BDO 31, 32) during the 1970s in the vicinity of Milltown castle (RO047-058001-) is now reduced to c. 15 ha through land reclamation in Milltown, including the removal of enclosure (RO047-058002-). The fields are defined by grass-covered stoney banks (Wth c. 2-3.5m; H c. 0.5m) and they are fairly large and irregular (dims c. 100m x c. 50m) with some smaller rectangular paddocks (dims c. 20, x c. 10m) amongst them. These increase in number with proximity to the castle, but the relationship with the castle cannot be established. Almost all the fields have traces of lazy-bed cultivation, and a road (RO047-058031-) (L c. 400m; Wth 2.7-3m) defined by earthen banks runs N-S through Bredagh, terminating at is S end close to the castle. There are three house sites (RO047-058028-; RO047-058029-; RO047-058030-) on the N side of an E-W ridge in Cooldooragh.
