The National Monuments Service's description
On a level landscape c. 60m from the W corner of the subrectangular Loughaneally lough (dims c. 530m NW-SE; c. 270m NE-SW), which is marked only on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. Loughaneally was probably a turlough and is now reclaimed. This is a circular grass-covered area (diam. 52.7m NW-SE; 51m NE-SW) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 3.5-9m; int. H 0.2-0.5m; ext. H 0.55-1.2m) with some bushes ENE-S-N, which has been removed elsewhere, and a complete rounded fosse (Wth of top 7-9m; Wth of base 1.8-3m; D 0.6-0.8m). The entrance and causeway (Wth 6m) are at SE and there are lazy-beds in the interior. Relict field boundaries (Wth 4m; H 0.3m) approach the monument from the S at E (L c. 120m), SW (L c. 100m) and WNW (L c. 130m). Enclosure (RO044-071002-) is c. 20m to the S and its perimeter at N cuts the field bank approaching the rath from the S.
