The National Monuments Service's description
A castle is marked on the Strafford map of c. 1636 at Crofton Mote (Simington 1949, Athlone (405)) where George Crofton owned a quarter amounting to 184 acres in 1641, which was later held by Edward Crofton (ibid. 121). It was not encountered.
