The National Monuments Service's description
On the ground beside the effigy (RO039-055004-) in the chancel of Roscommon abbey (RO039-055001-). This is a limestone slab (dims 1.25m by 0.91m) with an inscription in false relief commemorating John Verdon with the date 1656, but the lower end of the stone is missing. The inscriptions reads: PRAY FOR THE SOVLE OF / IOHN VERDON WHOE DIED / THE 26 OF IVLY 1656.. (Bradley and Dunne 1988, 104).
