The National Monuments Service's description

Marked on the 1837 and 1915 eds of the OS 6-inch map, and situated on a gentle E-facing slope on the W bank of a SW-NE section of the S-N Scramoge River which has a mill-race that was built since 1837 running parallel with it just NW of the monument. This is a D-shaped, grass-covered area (dims 73.1m NNE-SSW; 55.3m WNW-ESE) defined by a scrub-covered earthen bank (at SSW: Wth 6m; int. H 0.8m; ext. H 1.8m) S-W-N, reduced to a scarp (H 0.7m) N-E, and backing onto the stream at SE. There is a fosse (Wth of top 3.6-6.3m; Wth of base 2-2.9m; D 0.4-1m) and an outer bank (Wth of base 4.6-6.8m; Wth of top 2.8-3m; ext. H 0.2-0.7m) S-W and at NE. The fosse is incorporated into the mill-race W-N. An original entrance cannot be identified.
