Barrow - mound barrow

The National Monuments Service's description

At the highest point of a WNW-ESE ridge. Traditionally this is the burial place of Ceat Mac Magach, one of Queen Meave's warriors, or of Cairbre Cinn Ceat, a Fir Bolg king (Gormley 1989, 17). Circular grass-covered earthen mound (diam. 8m E-W; 7.4m N-S; H 1.2-1.7m) which has been revetted with stones (H 0.8m) N-SE. It is situated on a subrectangular grass-covered platform (dims 11.5m E-W; c. 14m N-S) defined by a scarp (H 0.8m) at N and E (H c. 0.2m), but merging into the ground elsewhere, and which may indicate the boundary of land reclaimation. Barrow (RO021-042020-) is c. 210m to the N, fulacht fia (RO021-042022-) is c. 100m to the SE, and the barrow is surrounded by the field system (RO021-042023-). (Knox 1914a, 38-9; Herity 1983, 137)
