The National Monuments Service's description
Built on the W bank of the River Shannon after 1623 by Maurice Griffith, and situated on a shelf overlooking the River Shannon and the bridge at Carrick-on-Shannon. A wall at the back of Shannonview House is thought to be part of it (OS Name Books), but no diagnostic features are visible (Bradley and Dunne 1988b, 16). Archaeological testing (07E0825) c. 50m to the SW (Read 2010e) and archaeological monitoring (07E0747) of pipe-laying during 2007 failed to produce any related material (Timoney 2011).
