The National Monuments Service's description
Situated on top of a low natural hillock in undulating countryside. Natural hillock which has been levelled to form a circular flat topped mound (H 1.7m; diam 52m E-W) enclosed by an earthen bank (Wth 4m) and external fosse (Wth 5m) from N through E to S with no enclosing element elsewhere. Natural slope of hillock offers the site natural defence from S through W to N.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
