Situated on the N facing slope of rising ground overlooking river immediately below to the N. Raised roughly circular area (diam 34m E-W; H max. 2m) enclosed by two earthen banks with intervening fosse (Wth 2m; ext. D 0.5m) with destroyed entrance gap (Wth 2.5m) at E. The inner bank is reduced to a scarp in most places while the fosse and external bank (Wth 1m; ext. H 0.5m) are destroyed from W through N to NE.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
