The National Monuments Service's description
The site of field clearance mound located beside a stream with no evidence of any archaeological features, field clearance may obscure original enclosure underneath the dump material. Known locally as 'Carroll's Fort' in the 1838 OS Field Name Books (OSFNB 1838-40, 214).
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
