The National Monuments Service's description
Unlocated holy wells associated with St. Fionnan which was described in the nineteenth century in the OS letters as 'Not far from the old church (OF026-017001-) is pointed out a spewy spot which formerly contained three holy wells sacred to St. Fionnan, at which crowds of pilgrims were accustomed to perform stations about three generations back but now entirely neglected (O'Flanagan 1933, vol. 1, 2).
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
