The National Monuments Service's description
Motte-like mound of earth (diam. 20-25m; H 4.5m) delimited from NE to SE by the curtain walling of the castle. Full extent of mound cannot be determined because of castle (OF026-005001-) and later building on it.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
