The National Monuments Service's description

In 1612 the lands of Pallas which belonged to Rory Oge McRorie O Molloy were granted tp Francis Blundell including a castle at 'Pallaice'. These lands were granted to Theobald O Molloy in 1629. Its owner in 1641 was Neale Molloy, who lost the lands to Arthur Ardagh, John Hallam, and Sir William Petty. Hollimshill takes its name from the Hallam family. The remains of Pallas Castle with close to the house (Loeber 1981, 57).

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
