The National Monuments Service's description
Enclosure around nineteenth century burial ground (OF017-005002-) appears to pre date the burial ground. On the first edition of the OS 6-inch map the enclosure is depicted as a circular enclosure or a possible ringfort. Possible ringfort that may have been converted into a paupers graveyard in the 19th century.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
