The National Monuments Service's description
Unlocated mill in the townlands of Lynally Glebe or Mucklagh that is marked on the Down Survey (1655-6) (1655-6) map (paris edition) which depicts a mill at 'Ballinvoyr' in the barony of Ballycowan. This townland name no longer exists and the townland in which this mill was located may have been the townland of Lynally Glebe or in the adjoining townland of Mucklagh. The mill is depicted standing on a stream which runs off the S bank of the Clodiagh River. On this map the mill is shown located to the E of the N tip of the townland of Screggan which would place the mill in the SE quadrant of the townland of Lynally Glebe or in the adjoining townland of Mucklagh. A Corn Mill and Tuck Mill marked on the first edition of the OS 6-inch map may have been located on the site of or in close vicinity to the mill shown on the Down Survey (1655-6) map.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
