The National Monuments Service's description
Numerous earthworks within the ecclesiastical enclosure (OF016-015005-) of Rahan monastery, some of which appear to be the wall footings of medieval buildings, others are of small field enclosures containing cultivation ridges, while other earthworks are drainage channels of 19th century date.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
