The National Monuments Service's description
No surface traces visible of a castle that was mentioned by De Renzi in the 17th century as a Mac Coghlan castle (Loeber 1988, vol. 3, 80). Site of castle may have been located at Kilcummin House.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
