The National Monuments Service's description

Poorly preserved remains of early medieval church (ext. dims c. 27m E-W,c. 7.5m N-S) built with large blocks of limestone. Only S wall stands to any height above it foundations and contains a small early medieval window with inner rounded arch and external pointed one. (ITA Survey 1942).

In centre of graveyard, ruins of a long rectangular church (ext. dims 24m E-W; 7.5m N-S; wall T 1m) of which the S wall is the best preserved with tower house (OF010-021001-) nearby. Small triangular headed window visible on the centre of the S wall possibly of Romanesque date. The base of this window is stepped. The walls are constructed from large blocks of limestone which are coursed and interspersed with red sandstone blocks. No doorway or other architectural features visible. The S wall extends beyond the W end of the church. Possibly indicating the presence of a structure built onto the W end of the church.

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
