The National Monuments Service's description
The site (Wth 0.47m; D 0.2m) consists of an irregular, radially split timber and a piece of light brushwood c. 0.32m apart in the drain face. The split timber is sub-rectangular in section, tapers towards one end and may have been dressed on two sides. The site appears to be situated in a transition zone between the fen peat and raised bog peat. The uppermost layer consists of well-humified Sphagnum peat with Eriophorum, Phragmites and a large amount of Menyanthes seeds. The lower layer is well-humified fen peat with a large amount of Phragmites and some Menyanthes seeds. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 1997. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument.
