House - 17th century

Ruined late 17th/early 18th-century 2-storey gable ended house (13.15m N-S; 8.2m E-W; wall T 0.63m) built of uncoursed rubble limestone orientated on a N-S axis. Entrance front (E) of 5 bays, central flat headed doorway with tall narrow rectangular windows either side. Small square shaped windows with brick segmental arches at first floor level directly under the eaves of the destroyed roof. The ground floor is divided into two main rooms which are accessed from the lobby area directly inside the main entrance. Both rooms are further sub-divided by a N-S wall producing a large E room and a smaller adjoining W room at both ends of the house. The two largere rooms are heated by an internally protruding gable ended fireplace with wooden lintels. An interesting feature of the smaller W room at the S end of the house is the presence of an inglenook fireplace built into the W side of the main fireplace. The first floor was accessed from a wooden stairs now destroyed located directly opposite the main entrance. The stairs is lit by a small flat headed window at first floor level in the W wall. the two smaller ground floor rooms at either gable end are lit by two small windows in the W wall. A small square shaped attic light is visible off centre to the W of the chimney stack on both gable ends.
