The National Monuments Service's description
On top of high ground in undulating countryside with two standing stones also known as the 'King's Stone' to the SW (OF006-026----) and W (OF006-004----). Known locally as the 'Kings Stone' this large irregular shaped stone (H 2.3m; 2.1m x 0.5m) is aligned on a N-S axis with evidence of packing stones and natural bedrock at its base. The stone is slightly titled to the NW which may be due to weathering. One of a group of three standing stones. Not marked on first two editions of the OS 6-inch maps which may indicate recent date for this group of stones.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
