The National Monuments Service's description

High vegetation during site inspection obscured the earthworks that were located to the NE of the castle (OF004-015001-). Described by T. Lynch on the 09 October 1980 as, 'on the NE side there are traces of a bawn and earthen banks, and beyond this are remains of further earthworks (SMR file 1980).

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
