The National Monuments Service's description

Unlocated stone castle within the townland of Ballinaminton that is indicated on the Down Survey (1655-6) barony map (Loeber 1988, vol. 1, 15). The 1659 Census of Kings County lists Robert Recubie; Thomas Stroaker and Francis Gurkman as owners of the lands of 'Bellanementan' (Pender 2002, 445). Stone from this castle may have been used in building the pub known as the 'Cat and Bagpipes' in the village of Tober.

The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
