The National Monuments Service's description
Located towards the bottom of the SE-facing slope of drumlin. This is an approximately circular grass and scrub-covered area (dims 33.4m E-W; 28.6m N-S) that slopes down to the E (H 2.8m) and is defined by an earthen bank (at SE: Wth of base 2.4m; int. H 0.6m; ext. H 0.8m) separated by a fosse or berm (at SE: Wth 3.4m) from an outer earthen bank (at SE: Wth of base 5.4m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 1.6m) with bushes. The outer bank is incorporated into a field bank W-NW and there is a drain outside the outer bank S-W, but the inner bank tends to be reduced to an internal scarp (H 0.4m) W-N. There are several gaps through the banks, but the original entrance may have been at E (Wth 2.3m). Rath (MO031-022----) is on top of the drumlin c. 180m to the WNW.
The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
