The National Monuments Service's description
Situated on top of a drumlin. This is a circular grass-covered area (diam. 30m E-W) defined by an earthen bank that has been removed but is traceable as a slight rise (at E: Wth 3.6m). It is surrounded by a fosse (at W: Wth of top 10.4m; Wth of base 4m; int. D 1.6m; ext. D 1m) that only survives WSW-N, but it can be traced as a vegetation change all around (at E: Wth 3.4m). Outside the fosse is a complete and overgrown outer earthen bank (Wth 1.5m at W to 2.6m at E; int. H 0.4m at E to 1m at W; ext. H 1.4-1.5m). There are gaps in the outer bank at E and SE but an original entrance cannot be identified. On the site of the inner bank at NE is a small rectangular, grass-covered house site (int. dims 3m x 2m) defined by a slight earthen bank (Wth 1m; H 0.25m) with no discernible entrance.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
