The National Monuments Service's description
Situated on the SW-facing slope of the spine of a NW-SE drumlin ridge. It is depicted as an embanked enclosure on the 1834 edition of the OS 6-inch map where it is described as a ‘fort’ and as the SW and NW sides of a subrectangular feature on the 1907 edition. This is a grass-covered oval area (dims c. 38m NW-SE; c. 31m NE-SW) defined by an earthen bank (at NW: Wth of base 3.7m; int. H 0.9m; ext. H 1.2m) and hedge NW-N, which had been removed by 1984, and a scarp (at SW: ext. H 1.8m) and hedge SE-W-NW. There is no evidence of the remainder of the perimeter or of an entrance.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
